Nancy Loadman Memorial Bursary

Established by the Fultz Loadman family in memory of Nancy Loadman, and funded entirely by Nancy’s dear friends, family and colleagues, this bursary will be awarded to students with a financial need who are majoring in Biology and have a minimum of 60 credit hours completed. Preference will be given to students who can demonstrate an interest in sustainability and biodiversity through extracurricular activities and/or other course work and/or research.

Beloved Instructor in the Department of Biology, Nancy taught for 35 years at The University of Winnipeg. From the very beginning, she had the purest and most genuine appreciation for every part of the natural world. In 1986 and 1987, she took a sabbatical to work at the Department of Fisheries and Oceans’ Freshwater Institute in Winnipeg, which took her to the Rockwood Fish Hatchery near Teulon, Manitoba. She also frequented the Association for the Sciences of Limnology and Oceanography (“ASLO”) conferences and presented research all over the United States alongside her cherished colleagues. She was an active member, and later a scientific advisor, for the Lake Winnipeg Foundation. A true experiential scientist, Nancy spent many summers sampling parts of Lake Winnipeg for the Foundation, including on the Namao research vessel on Lake Winnipeg. She taught by using hands on, interactive learning, donning her rubber boots at every opportunity to trek out into the field with her students to show them the answers to their questions about the natural world.
