The Empowerment Scholarship

This scholarship will be given to a student in the Athletic Therapy program at The University of Winnipeg who is also a member in good standing of The Canadian Athletic Therapists Association (CATA). The intent of this scholarship is to assist a student with the costs associated with attending a conference or course to further their knowledge in the field of athletic therapy. Examples include but are not limited to the CATA national conference or a course that is offered through Manitoba Athletic Therapy Association (MATA) or CATA and approved by the Kinesiology and Applied Health Departmental Awards Committee.

Recipients will be asked to complete an application outlining the conference or course they would like to attend as well as provide information on their involvement in the athletic therapy program and in the community. Selection will be based on academic excellence, leadership activities and dedication to the profession. Selection of the successful recipient will be made by the Kinesiology and Applied Health Departmental Awards Committee. Funds will be distributed as a reimbursement following submission of receipts.

Megan Pomarensky, the donor who established this award, believes participating in conferences as well as continuing education courses is a hugely valuable experience for students. However, she understands it’s not always affordable or accessible for all students, which is why she decided to create this scholarship.
