The Amy Gilbert Memorial Award
This award has been established by the friends and family of Amy Gilbert and honours her passion for the environment and social justice. Amy had decided to pursue a degree in naturopathy, and it was her dream to see medical doctors and naturopathic doctors working together to help others reach diagnosis and treatment sooner. This award will be given to a student at The University of Winnipeg in any major within the Faculty of Science, with the intent of pursuing studies in naturopathy. If such a candidate cannot be found, it will be awarded to a Second or Third Year student majoring in Environmental Studies and Sciences, who has completed course work, done research or has an interest in the Environmental Lakes Area. Amy’s passionate nature shown through in all she did especially in her love for the environment and environmental awareness. The Experimental Lakes Area (ELA) was one of Amy’s favourite places; she referred to it as her “heaven on earth”. Amy was driven in her desire to see ELA’s invaluable environmental work and studies continue, not just for Canada but also globally. Recipients must also demonstrate financial need.
