Friesen and Wendl Corrections Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship was established in 2012 by Dr. Michael Weinrath to honour Werner Rudolf Friesen and Joseph Wendl, two living unit officers who were killed in the line of duty at Stony Mountain Institution in 1984. This scholarship has been created with the blessing of the surviving family members, and support from the Criminal Justice Students’ Association and management/staff at Stony Mountain Institution. Dr. Weinrath formerly worked in Correctional Services in Alberta . This scholarship will be awarded to an outstanding Criminal Justice major at The University of Winnipeg, who has completed at least 60 hours of study and shown an aptitude for corrections or corrections research.
