This scholarship will be awarded to an outstanding undergraduate or graduate student who is currently studying at The University of Winnipeg. The recipient will have a demonstrated interest in labour and equity issues, either through community involvement, their studies, or research. Dr. Kristine Jansen joined the Psychology Department at The University of Winnipeg in 1980, specializing in Developmental Psychology and most recently in Moral Development. Twice UWFA President, Dr. Hansen was instrumental, with other faculty members, in facilitating the first ever study supported by The University of Winnipeg Board of Regents into gender-based wage disparity. In the early 1990’s, she inaugurated the UWFA Status of Women Committee. Dr. Hansen pursued and finally achieved during her second tenure as UWFA President, the distribution of the long-standing compensation that a generation of women were entitled to receive. The scholarship was established in 2013 by friends and colleagues, in honour of Dr. Hansen’s vision, intelligence and tenacity in improving our vocations as academics.
